What is satellite broadband?

If you are experiencing slow broadband speeds or dodgy connections and are finding things like sending emails, video-calling family and friends, internet banking and online shopping a bit of a nightmare then satellite broadband could be the perfect solution.

 

Our broadband service is beamed from our satellite in space, which means it works pretty much everywhere. The Internet services you can access with a satellite broadband connection are the same as those accessed via a traditional ADSL, cable, fibre or 4G. 

 

Bear in mind though, that the satellite signal travels 44,000 miles to give you coverage everywhere. That creates a slight lag which impacts those services which are sensitive to latency. Even if this latency is less than a second, we don't recommend using satellite broadband for intensive professional videocalls or real-time multiplayer online gaming, for example.
